Background

KN has had a working relationship with NTL and Chorus for over 10 years which has been the foundation for this major project with UPC Ireland.
This project upgrades and rebuilds the old existing, cable network and has been a key element of UPC’s network investment plan. The new, powerful network has the capacity to deliver a triple play service to new and existing UPC customers including phone line, broadband and digital TV.

Our role

KN was responsible for all phases of the network from design, planning and scheduling to construction, commissioning, QA, handover and release to sales.

  • ERS – Emergency Restoration Services.
  • Project management.
  • Site survey.
  • Way-leaving.
  • Civils engineering.
  • Fibre splicing, blown fibre.
  • Cabling construction.
  • Commissioning test verification.
  • Switch-over.
  • Strip-down of old network.
Team

Up to 100 people worked on this project covering staff with skills covering: health and safety, QS, supervisors, fibre splicers, network technicians, complaint controls, cabling operatives and civil engineering crews.
