Photovoltaic Array

PV Array

Name of client: Allenbuild
Date of completion: August 2009
Location of project: Mayford Grange, Surrey
Scale of project: £100K – 18.02KWp
Key personnel: Paul Mc Gonagle, Stephen Boyle and Ryan Foster

Background

The aim of installing the photovoltaic PV array was to contribute towards a 4 star code for sustainable homes. This code for sustainable homes has been implemented to progress the UK government’s target that all new homes will be zero carbon from 2016 and it sets minimum standards for energy and water use. KN had been introduced to Allenbuild by a Building Services Engineering Consultant, and were working with them on another project

Our role

Our project tasks included designing, installing and commissioning a ground mounted PV array. Phases were as follows:

  • Civils (foundations and ducting).
  • Structural design (wind loading calculations).
  • Mechanical design and installation (framing, solar modules).
  • Electrical design and installation. (inverters, cabling and lightning protection).
  • Commissioning, (Electrical testing and grid relay protection demonstration).
  • Coordinating works with the main build programme and completing the work in phases to accommodate other trades (groundworkers, electricians. landscape gardeners).
  • Installing our first ground mounted system.
  • Delivering on time.
  • Contributing to Sustainable Code 4.
  • Delivering within the budget.
  • Team

The team of  six people working on the project had a range of structural, electrical and mechanical skills and included a DNO (Distribution Network Operator).
